Alagoz and Cardona Named to NHTI Tap-Off All Tournament Team

Haverhill, MA (November 6, 2017) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team finished as the runners-up at the seasoning opening NHTI Edward Jones Tap-Off Classic over the weekend and Emir Alagoz (Istanbul, Turkey) and Eddie Cardona (Haverhill, MA) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

On Friday evening, the Knights escaped the opening round game against the host NHTI Lynx with a 109-107 overtime victory. In the final on Saturday, Northern Essex Community College fell late to Mass Bay Community College by a score of 97-91. The Knights and Mass Bay will meet two more times in conference play with the first of the two games scheduled for Tuesday November 28th at the NECC Sport and Fitness Center.

Over the weekend, Alagoz averaged 22 points per game including a team high 26 point performance in Saturday's championship game. He also contributed 11 rebounds over the weekend from his guard position. For weekend Alagoz shot 59% from the floor converting on 16 of 27 shots.

Cardona averaged just over 20 points a game over the weekend as he combined to go 15-34 from the floor. Battling foul trouble throughout both games, he also contributed 7 steals on the defensive side of the court.

The Knights return to the floor on Tuesday as they open up their home schedule at 6:00pm against Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors eight varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
