Knights split pair of lopsided games with CCRI

Warwick, RI (March 26, 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College baseball team split a pair of lopsided non-divisional contests with Community College of Rhode Island

Game 1 (Friday)-

CCRI blew open what was a 4-3 game with nine runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings to defeat Northern Essex by a score of 13-3.

Corey Imbriano (Wakefield, MA) got the start for the Knights and he went three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits, while striking out five and walking four. Nick Musto (Londonderry, NH) took the loss for the Knights as he went three innings in relief allowing five runs on six hits.

Offensively, the Knights had seven hits, two each from Ben Irvine (Peobody, MA) and Ryan Collins (Peabody, MA) as each also scored a run in the game.

Game 2 (Monday)-

Roles were reversed for the second game of the series as the Knights jumped out to an early 4-0 after one inning and never looked back in defeating CCRI 15-2 pounding out 14 hits along the way.

Kyle Hawes (Lynnfield, MA) got the Knights on the board first with a base hit that scored Riley Magee (Windham, NH). With the bases loaded later in the inning, Julio Leon (Lawrence, MA) delivered a bases clearing double.

Magee added a solo home run in the third inning, while Leon had a two run opposite field home run in the fifth for the Knights.

Joining Magee and Leon with multiple hits were Collins (2), Alex Almonte (Lawrence, MA) (3) and Hawes (2).

One the mound, Knights pitching struck out 11 CCRI batters while only issuing two walks. Richard Reidy (Amesbury, MA) started and went three and a third innings allowing one unearned run and striking out six. Ryan Sharkey (Salisbury, MA) (1.2IP, 3H, 2K, 1ER) and Jake Berresi (Wakefield, MA) (2IP, 1H, 3K, 2BB) finished off the game for Northern Essex.

Up Next:

The Knights will return to action on Saturday March 31st when they are scheduled to open up Region XXI Divisional play with a double header at Quinsigamond Community College with first pitch set for 12:00pm.
