Golf concludes season at NJCAA Championships

Haverhill, MA (June 8, 2019)Anthony Calvani (Amesbury) and Brandon Mullarkey (Reading) of the Northern Essex Community College golf team wrapped up competition at the NJCAA National Championship in Chautauqua, NY at the Chautauqua Golf Club this past week, marking the first representatives from the college to compete at the national championship since 2000, when the college last fielded a team.

Over the four-day 72 hole championship tournament Calvani finished in a tie for 31st place while Mullarkey finished in a tie for 69th. Calvani's best round was his first as he fired +6 78 on the par 72 course that was playing 6,462 yards. He followed up with rounds of 85, 79 and 81 for a four round total of 323 to finish at +35 for the tournament.

Mullarkey's best round was also his first as he fired an 84. He followed up with rounds of 86, 86, and 93 to finish at 349 at +61.

Georgia Military College won the team championship while Trey Capps of Sandhills Community College captured the individual national championship shoot a four round 292 to finish +4.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
