Women's Track finishes 17th at NJCAA National Championships

Haverhill, MA (May 12, 2019) - The NECC women's track and field team finished tied for 17th place at the NJCAA National Championship meet scoring eight points across three events over the weekend.

Katelyn Richardson (Wilmington) got the Knights on the scoreboard immediately on Thursday night as she scored one point with an 8th place finished in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time 14:05.4.

Olivia Mullins (Plaistow, NH) doubled up on Saturday as she finished 6th in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:25.32, to score three points and break her own school record which she set at last year's national championship meet. Mullins returned to the track two hours later to record a 5th place finish and score four additional points in the 5000 meter with a time of 21:29.11.

In the men's competition Jose Tavares (Salem, MA) finished 27th in the preliminaries of the 200 meter with a time of 24.46 and Alex Ellis (Methuen, MA) finished 24th in the 800 meter.

The meet concludes the season for NECC. Both Mullins and Richardson will graduate next week from Northern Essex. Mullins plans to continue her collegiate career joining the track and cross country programs at Fitchburg State University. Tavares and Ellis are expected to return for the Knights next season.
