Northern Essex opens 2018 campaign with 3-0 sweep of Bunker Hill

Haverhill, MA (September 8, 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team opened up its 2018 season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) sweep of Bunker Hill Community College on Saturday afternoon to give head coach Mike Pelosi his first collegiate victory.

Leading the way for the Knights was sophomore Amanda Forgetta (Mallabar, FL) who had 14 kills in the match on her way to attacking at .400%. Freshman Nasha Sanchez (Lawrence, MA) contributed 16 assists in her collegiate debut. Rachel Amiss (Salem, NH) served up five aces from behind the service line.

Defensively freshman Sarah Shattuck (Andover, MA) led the team with four solo blocks.

Northern Essex will open up the home portion of its schedule on Friday night when they host Bronx Community College at the Sport and Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus. First serve is set for 6:30pm.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
