Knights go 2-2 over the weekend in non-region competition

Haverhill, MA (September 17, 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College women's volleyball split four non-regional matches over the weekend. The Knights now sit with a 3-2 overall record.

Friday vs. Bronx Community College

NECC swept past Bronx Community College 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-7) on Friday night at the Sport and Fitness Center.

As a team, the Knights attacked at .389% with 24 kills in 54 attempts. Amanda Forgetta (Mallabar, FL) and Rachel Amiss (Slaem, NH) each had nine kills while Sarah Shattuck (Andover, MA) added another six.

Christine Ortega (Haverhill, MA) served up four service aces while Nasha Sanchez (Lawrence, MA) added 19 assists.

Defensively, Forgetta had nine digs, Amiss added seven while Marissa Reardon (Lawrence, MA) contributed six to a strong defensive effort.

Saturday @ Community College of Rhode Island Tournament

The Knights went 1-1 in pool play before falling in the semi-final round of the CCRI Invitational on Saturday.

NECC dropped its first match to Nassau CC by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-9, 25-15) before bouncing back with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14) victory over NHTI.

The Knights struggled out of the gate hitting just .146% for the match. Forgetta and Amiss each contributed five kills, while Sanchez dished out 12 assists. Reardon led the defensive effort with six digs.

In the second pool play match, after dropping the first set, the Knights won three consecutive games to secure the win. Forgetta threw down a match high 23 kills with a kill percentage of .426. Sanchez added 36 assists.

Defensively, Amiss had 18 digs and Shattuck contributed 15 to rally the defense for the win.

In the semi-final round, the Knights fell to Fashion Institute of Technology (NY) 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 26-24).

For the match, the Knights hit at .204. Forgetta contributed 12 kills, while Amiss led the defense with 14 digs. From the setter position, Sanchez again led the team with 19 assists.

The Knights will return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Concord, NH as they continue non-regional play against NHTI with first serve set for 6:30pm.
