Volleyball splits pair of matches at CCRI Dig Pink Tri-Match

Haverhill, MA (October 6, 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team split a pair matches on Saturday at the Community College of Rhode Island Dig Pink Tri-Match, defeating Bunker Hill by a score of 3-0 and later falling to the hosts by a similar 3-0 score. The Knights record moves to 8-3 on the season.

In the opening match, the Knights won by set scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-13. Offensively, Sarah Shattuck (Andover, MA) and Rachel Amiss (Salem, NH) led the attack with eight kills apiece. Nashaly Sanchez (Lawrence, MA) dished out 23 assists to aide in the offensive attack.

On the defensive end for Northern Essex, Amiss along with Amanda Forgetta (Mallabar, FL) led the effort with 12 and 11 digs respectively.

Against CCRI, the Knights fell by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-13. Amiss led the offense with 10 kills and .375 kill percentage, while Shattuck led the teams defensive effort with 12 digs. Sanchez aided the offense with 16 assists.

The Knights will return the court on Thursday October 11th when then head to Holyoke Community College for a 7:00pm first serve. Following Thursday the Knights will return the Sport and Fitness on the Haverhill campus for a 12:00pm match against Bunker Hill as part of NECC's 2nd Annual Homecoming event.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
