Knights take 3-0 win over Great Bay on Sophomore Night

Haverhill, MA (October 18, 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College women's volleyball team swept past Great Bay Community College on Thursday night 3-0 with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-17, improving their overall record to 11-3. Prior to the start of the match NECC recognized in second year members of the team with a sophomore ceremony. The match was the final tune-up heading into Saturday's regional tournament.

Sarah Shattuck (Andover, MA) and Rachel Amiss (Salem, NH) put up near identical numbers as each contributed 12 kills and attacked at .478 and .480 marks respectively.

Nashaly Sanchez (Lawrence, MA) tacked on 25 assists and led the defensive effort with 10 digs. Shattuck also contributed four blocks to the Knights defense.

The Knights will return to the court on Saturday when they will play host to the Region XXI volleyball tournament as the top seed with a 6-0 regional record. The three team round robin tournament will begin at 11:00am with Northern Essex playing an opponent to be determined later this evening. The Knights will also play in tournament's third match of the day. The winner of the tournament will advance to the District tournament to be played October 28th in New York's Region 15.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
