Volleyball falls in District Tournament to conclude season

Haverhill, MA (October 28, 2018) - The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team concluded its season on Sunday afternoon dropping a pair of matches at the District G Tournament on the campus of Queensborough Community College. The Region XXI champions conclude their season at 13-5 and ultimately fell one win shy of advancing to their first national tournament. 

In the opening match, the Knights fell 3-0 to Nassau Community College. Amanda Forgetta (Mallabar, FL) put up team highs on both sides of the ball in the opening match as she recorded eight kills and 16 digs. Nashaly Sanchez (Lawrence, MA) handed out 16 assists in the match.

In the second match of the day the Knights ran into the #10 nationally ranked Tigers of Queensborough and were felled by a similar 3-0 score. Sarah Shattuck (Andover, MA) had six kills in the second match to the lead the Knights and she also contributed three blocked shots. Rachel Amiss (Salem, NH) had eight digs on the defensive side of the net, while Sanchez passed out 11 assists.

With their wins, both Nassau and Queensborough have advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament taking place November 8-10 in Rochester, MN.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors nine varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, golf, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field.
