Knights sweep Quinsigamond to open Region XXI divisional play

Haverhill, MA (March 31, 2018) – The Northern Essex Community College baseball team opened regional division play on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Quinsigamond by way of a 10-0 game one win followed by an 18-6 win in game two.

Game 1-

Richard Reidy (Amesbury, MA) was nearly flawless on the mound in game one as he threw a complete game striking out nine, while only allowing one walk and four hits.

Offensively for the Knights, a seven run fifth inning expanded what was an early 3-0 lead resulting in the final score. Ben Irvine (Peobody, MA) was the offensive star of the game as he went 4 for 4 at the plate, drove in two runs, scored another three of his own and stole 4 bases.

Game 2-

Down 4-3 after four innings in game two the Knights crossed the plate 15 time over the games final three inning to record the 18-6 win.

Riley Magee (Windham, NH) smashed his regional leading fourth and fifth home runs of the season as part of 3 for 5 performance with five RBI's and three runs scored. Kyle Hawes (Lynnfield, MA) was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored.

Irvine, Ryan Collins (Peobody, MA), Alex Almonte (Lawrence, MA) and Spencer Balian (Lynnfield, MA) each also recorded multiple hits in game two.

Four different Knights saw action on the mound as Jake Berresi (Wakefield, MA) started and went 2 and two-thirds striking out five, walking six. Ryan Sharkey (Salisbury, MA) picked up the win in relief as went two and one-third innings (5H, 2Ks, 2 BB, 2ER).

Up Next:

The Knights will return to the field on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Medford, MA to take on the Tufts University JV team. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
