Romero, Magee, Irvine named Baseball All-Americans

Haverhill, MA (June 11, 2018) – Freshman infielder Leo Romero (Lawrence, MA) of the Northern Essex Community College baseball with his First Team selection headlined three selections to the NJCAA All-American Teams as announced today by the NJCAA Baseball Committee. In addition freshman catcher Riley Magee (Windham, NH) and sophomore center fielder Ben Irvine (Peabody, MA) earned selection to the Second Team. NECC was one of three teams to have three All-American selections. Only Rowan-Gloucester (NJ) had more with four.
 
Romero, who started the majority of the season at third base, before patrolling second base during the Knights post season run appeared 41 of the teams 42 games. On the season he batted .410 while recording 57 hits, 48 runs scored and had a slugging percentage of .604. Defensively, he recorded a combined .922 fielding percentage between his time at both infield positions. 
 
Magee, who also appeared in 41 of the teams games led the region in multiple statistical categories offensively. His .453 batting average, 50 RBI's, 67 hits and 7 home runs all led Region 21 on the season. Defensively, Magee threw out 11 runners on the base paths and had a .975 fielding percentage.
 
Irvine, who started 39 games in center field during the season was second in the nation in stolen bases with 40, while only being caught three times. His 55 runs scored also led the region on the year. The sophomore expects to announce his commitment to a four-year college in the coming days.
 
The Knights (26-16) captured their seventh consecutive Region XXI Championship and won the District F title while advancing to the college's seventh ever College World Series where they competed in Greenveille, TN over the Memorial Day weekend.
