Haverhill, MA (July 21, 2021) – Throughout the month of July, Northern Essex Community College has made several upgrades to the gymnasium area of the Sports & Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus.
Work began with the removal of the walk-draw curtain that was used to separate the gym for multi-court use. The walk-draw curtain was replaced with a motorized fold up curtain from Gared Sports with the work performed by Gymnasium Design Company of Stow, MA.
Following the completion of the curtain project the floor was stripped and sanded to bare wood. After the sanding was completed, two coats of DTS sealer were applied, prior to all new game lines being painted. Two coats of Bona SportPoly were applied following the paint application.
The refinishing project also included the addition of a main volleyball court and update of all on court graphics. Previously volleyball was played on one of two side courts. The addition of the main volleyball court will provide for an improved student-athlete and spectator experience both in person and for those viewing online. The floor project was completed by Gymnasium Floors of Stoughton, MA. Two side basketball and volleyball courts were also included with the floor refinishing.
"On behalf of the coaches and student-athletes I'd like to thank the college for their commitment to enhancing the facility. We hope these are the first of many upgrades to come in the near future. We look forward to getting the athletes back on campus in the next two weeks and getting back to competition," said Knights Athletic Director Dan Blair.
