Haverhill, MA (November 28, 2023) – Northern Essex Community College volleyball's freshman setter Vielka Sanchez (Lawrence) was named an NJCAA Volleyball All-American as announced today by the NJCAA Volleyball Committee. Sanchez, the Region 21 volleyball Player of the Year becomes the second All-America selection in the history of the Knights volleyball program.
She was one of 30 student-athletes honored across two All-America teams and honorable mention selections.
Sanchez finished the season ranked second in the nation with 1.75 service aces per set. She also dished out 327 assists on the season for the Knights using a two setter rotation throughout the season.
She served up a season high 17 aces in a September 16th match against Quinsigamond and recorded 10 or more aces on five different occasions on the season.
As a team, she helped lead the Knights to their best season in program history with a 23-2 overall record as they captured their first Region 21 Championship since 2018 and first ever district championship advancing to the programs first ever national tournament.
