Haverhill, MA (April 17, 2024) – Sophomore pitcher Jayden Voelker (Coventry, RI) of the Northern Essex Community College baseball team has been named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday April 14th for his 2-0 week performance in part of the Knights 5-1 in six games played last week.
Voelker dominated in a pair of shutout wins over Holyoke Community College and Bunker Hill Community College. Last Monday against the Cougars he pitched five innings of not hit baseball striking out 13 batters while issuing just one walk in the Knights 17-0 victory.
He followed that performance up on Saturday at home against the Bulldogs with another five-inning performance of 11 strikeouts, while issuing one walk and allowing one hit in the fifth inning in front of a crowd of major league scouts representing eight MLB programs.
Voelker and the Knights will return to the field on Thursday evening at Trinity Stadium when they host Community College of Rhode Island in the first game of a crucial three-game series. The series will conclude on Saturday with a double header in Warwick.
