Knights split pair of one run games with Eastern Connecticut State

Mansfield, CT (April 11, 2021) – The Northern Essex Community College baseball team split a pair of one run games on Sunday afternoon with Eastern Connecticut State winning game one 1-0 before dropping game two 6-5 and ending their six game winning streak. Game 1

Reigning NJCAA Pitcher of the Week Todd Tringale (Saugus) was dominant again on the mound as he went the distance striking out 11 and only allowing three hits, three walks and a hit batsman. Tringale only allowed more than one runner to reach base in the fifth and seventh innings.

Duval and White each recorded two hits as part of the five hits for the Knights in game one.

Game 2

The Knights staked themselves out to 4-0 lead before ECSU would tie the game at five in the sixth before walking off with the winning run in the seventh.

Levi Burrill (Amesbury) started and went 5 2/3 striking out seven, walking two and allowing five runs on five hits. Only one of the runs was earned as the Knights defense committed three errors in the game. Jack Swarbrick (Haverhill) suffered loss in relief as ECSU was able to load the bases in the seventh and draw a one out bases loaded walk to win.

NECC got out to 1-0 lead after one as Duval led the game off with a double, advanced on a fielders choice from White and would score on a sacrifice fly from Jared Coppola (Lynn).

Logan Burrill (Amesbury) would help the Knights double their lead in the second as he led off with a double, immediately stole third and scores when Joe Muzio (Rockport) grounded out.

A base hit from White and a sacrifice fly from Chris Presinal (Sudbury) would grow the lead to 4-0 before ECSU responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Muzio would lead off the sixth with a single up the middle and would steal his way around the bases and would score on a double steal to account for the Knights final run. Eastern would add three runs in the sixth to tie the game before walking off in the seventh.
