Baseball opens up 2022 campaign with three wins

Game 1:

  • The Knights platted 14 runs on 17 hits in game one including four home runs
  • Jayden Voelker (Conventry, RI) got the start and struggled with some control early, but struck out six batter in four innings of work. He was charged with three earned runs
  • Tom Cattaneo (Guilford, CT) came on in relief and threw two inning striking out two and allowing two hits. Jack Swarbrick (Haverhill) tossed the final inning with two strike outs.
  • Jared Coppola (Lynn) was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with two RBI's and and
  • NECC never trailed and got off to a hot start when Logan Burrill (Amesbury) and Richard Matos (Boston) went back to back in the top of the first inning. It was the first of two home runs for Burrill in the game.
  • Richie Williams (Georgetown) and Chris Bear (Boston) both had successful debuts for the Knights as they recorded three hits apiece.

Game 2:

  • After falling behind 2-0 after three innings, the Knights bats came alive and scored 14 runs over the games final three innings.
  • NECC recorded 11 hits and were aided by three Waubonsee errors in the fifth inning which allowed the Knights to plate seven runs.
  • Todd Tringale (Saugus) struck out seven batters over four innings and allowed one earned run while issuing four walks. Tristan Ciampa (Wilmington) finished out the remainder of thew game without allowing a hit and striking out one batter.
  • Nick White (Townsend) led the offensive attack with a 2 for 4 performance at the plate with five RBI's
  • Joe Settle (Melbourne, FL) stole three bases, while reaching base three time with a double and two walks.
  • Kyle Hsu (Brookline, NH) and Clay Campbell (Hooksett, NH) joined White in game two with multiple hits as each recorded a pair of singles.

Game 3:

  • Alex Sweeney (Raymond, NH) tossed a complete game shutout on Saturday morning, striking out four walking one and allowing just two hits.
  • For the game the Knights recorded three runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to record the 9-0 victory.
  • Williams, Matos and Kam Levesque (Hooksett, NH) paced the offense as each recorded three RBI's in the game.
  • Matos had two hits in the game and crushed his second home run of the season when he sent the ball well beyond the left field fence.
  • Williams (3), Campbell and Levesque joined Matos with multiple hits in the game.

NECC is off on Sunday and will return to the field on Monday as they play a split double header at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg beginning at 10:00 against #3 Oakton (IL) and Montgomery (MD)
