Tringale tosses No No, Knights win sixth straight

Haverhill, MA (March 27, 2022) – For the second time in as many days, dominate staring pitching was the name of the game as the NECC Knights baseball team picked up a pair victories over Eastern Connecticut State (JV) on Sunday afternoon as the Knights played their home opener on the season. Todd Tringale (Saugus) tossed the second no hitter of the weekend for NECC in game two. With the pair of wins, NECC improves to 14-2 on the season.

Game 1

  • After allowing one run in the top of first, Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill) settled in and went the distance in the run rule shortened game. Over five innings of work he allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out seven and walking one.
  • The Knights would score in each of their at-bats starting with a four spot in the first. Richie Williams (Georgetown) led off with a walk and Chris Bear (Boston) with a single. Williams came around to score a single from Jared Coppola (Lynn) to left, followed by Bear on a single up the middle from Joey Settle (Melbourne, FL). Clay Campbell (Goffstown, NH) drive in the final two runs of the inning with a bases clearing triple.
  • Kameron Levesque (Hooksett, NH) led the second by reaching getting into scoring position on an error and quickly came around to score on a base hit from Williams. Nick White (Townsend) drove in Williams with a one out double to left. With Lucas Berube (Dighton) at the plate, White would score on a passed ball with Coppola coming around on a infield single.
  • In the third, four more runs would come across, the first if which would be a two run inside the park home run for Williams to the deepest part of the field in right center that scored Levesque. Bear would score after reaching via a walk on a single from Campbell, while a bases loaded walk to Kyle Hsu (Brookline) accounted for the final run of the frame.
  • White would play a role in the final two runs of the game as his one out triple in the fourth drove in Williams and White came around on a sac fly from  
  • For the game NECC recorded 13 hits and had seven batters reached via base on balls.

Game 2

  • Tringale went the distance on 104 pitches without allowing a hit as he struck out a season high 13, while walking three and hitting one batter.
  • After a scoreless first, the Knights will plate the only run they needed with two outs in the second. Berube drove in Settle with a line drive to right field for the 1-0 advantage after Settle reached on a free pass.
  • NECC immediately loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth. After reaching via walk, Settle could come around to score in a fielder's choice from Kevin Rodriguez (Manchester, NH). With two outs, Campbell would steal home, before Rodriguez would score on a base hit from Nick Panzini (Methuen).
  • In the fifth, White would steal home after reaching via walk and advancing to third on a single from Coppola. Immedaitly following the steal, Settle ripped a triple down the line and across one batter alter on a single from Campbell.
  • Rodriguez accounted for the final run of the game as he reached via walk, advanced to third on a base hit from Panzini and scored on a passed ball.

The Knights will return to the field on Wednesday evening when they will travel to Fraser Field in Lynn to take on Fisher College.
