Knights extend winning streak to 13 with sweep of Massasoit

Haverhill, MA (April 10, 2022) - The Northern Essex Community College baseball team extended its winning steak to 13 games on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Massasoit Community College. With the wins NECC improves to 21-2 overall and 5-0 in Region XXI play.

Game 1

  • After a scoreless first inning, NECC took a 2-0 lead in the second. Richard Matos (Boston) and Clay Campbell (Goffstown, NH) started the inning off with back to back doubles to give NECC a 1-0. Three batters later Campbell would score on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Hsu (Brookline, NH) for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Campbell would lead the fourth off getting hit by a pitch and eventually come around to score on a wild pitch.
  • The Knights added three more runs in the fifth inning, all coming with two out on eiter a passed ball or wile pitch. After reaching on a one out walk, Nick White (Townsend) scored on a wild pitch. Pinch runner Kam Levesque (Hooksett, NH) scored on a passed ball and two pitches later Campell would score on a wild pitch.
  • Todd Tringale (Saugus) tossed six innings on one hit baseball, striking out nine, while walking one and hitting batter in the process to pick up his fourth victory of the season on the mound.
Game 2
  • The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in blanking to Warriors.
  • Matos ripped a two out, two RBI line drive double to center field that scored Levesque and Jared Coppola (Lynn) who respectively reached by via and error and and walk.
  • In the third, NECC would add another run with two outs, when Coppola would come around to score on a botched pickoff attempt at 1st.
  • With one and the bases loaded and one out, White, quickly doubled the lead to 6-0 when he tripled and cleared bases on a ball to the left-center gap. Coppola quickly drove in White with a base hit to left before Matos would record his second double of the game on a rope down the left field line.
  • Alex Sweeney (Raymond, NH) went the distance on the mound, striking out six, while allowing three hits and walking one batter.
 
The Knights will head to Brockton on Monday afternoon to conclude the three game series with Warriors. First pitch i scheduled for 3:30. NECC returns home next weekend, when they will host Quincy College for a Region XXI battle beginning at 2:00pm
