Coppola 3 RBI's, Pitching send Knights to Championship Sunday

Lynn, MA (May 7, 2022) - The Northern Essex Community College baseball team picked up their 30th consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon over Massasoit Community College by a 6-1 to advance to the Championship Round on the Region 21 Tournament on Sunday afternoon at 12:00pm at Fraser Field. With the win the Knights improved to 38-2 overall on the season.

  • A two out RBI single in the first inning off the bat of Jared Coppola (Lynn) scored Nick White (Townsend) who reached base on a walk and stole second on the second pitch of Coppola's at bat.
  • NECC added three more runs in the 3rd as the first two batters of the inning, White and Coppola were both hit by a pitch. After both advanced on a passed ball White would score on a sac fly from Richard Matos (Boston). Coppola would score on an defensive error and after reaching on a walk Clay Campbell (Hooksett, NH) would work his way around the bases and eventually score on a steal of home plate.
  • The Knights would add two more in the 7th when White doubled on a ball in the gap to right center and Coppola followed by sending a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left center for his third home run of the season.
  • The pitching staff held the Warriors scoreless until the 9th when they plated a lone run with two outs in the inning.
  • Jayden Voelker (Coventry, RI) took the mound to start and went six innings, allowing one hit, while striking out 10 and walking two and hitting one batter. Alex Sweeney (Raymond, NH) tossed two innings of hitless relief striking out two, while Tyler McDonald (Haverhill) tossed the final frame allowing one run on two hits and striking out one.
 
The Knights will have two chances to win one game on Sunday in the Championship Round and will face the winner of the Massasoit/CCRI game, who are playing the third and final game of Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm on Sunday at Fraser Field. The tournament winner will advance to host the winner of the Region 15 tournament beginning Friday May 13th.
