Herrera carries Knights past UCAP, 67-66

Groton, CT (March 23, 2021) – A career high 32 points from first year Angel Herrera (Lawrence) carried the Northern Essex Community College men's basketball to a 67-66 win on the road over UConn-Avery Point Tuesday night, as the Knights returned to the court following a break of more than two weeks. The win improves the Knights record to 3-2 on the season.

As part of his career performance Herrera sunk the game winning basket with 35.2 seconds remaining on the clock as he pulled up with a jumper in the paint to get the Knights back on top as they let a lead slip in the final minutes.

Jeremiah Melendez (Lawrence) joined Herrera in double figures with 11 points. Cristian Kinsley (Lawrence) led a strong defensive effort for the Knights.

NECC will return to the court next Tuesday night when they will host UConn to conclude the two-game series between the Region 21 foes. Tip off is set for 6:00pm at the Sport and Fitness Center in Haverhill.
