Haverhill, MA (December 9, 2021) – On Mullet Mamba t-shirt giveaway night the Northern Essex Community College men's basketball halted a four-game losing streak with a 66-54 win against the Warriors of Massasoit Community College. With the win the Knights improve to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in Region 21 play.

The Knights took a 27-25 lead into the locker room at halftime in a back and forth first half. NECC took the lead for good at the midway point of the second half when the Mullet Mamba Matt D'Amato (Peabody) drained his first three of the game putting the Knights up 39-36. NECC would expand the lead to eight with eight minutes to go and never lead by less than six the rest of the way.

Mehmet Asik (Ankara, TR) led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points as four Knights cracked double figures. Phillip Cunningham (Haverhill) tossed in 12 points while Daniel Almarante (Lawrence) and Metin Yavuz (Istanbul, TR) each added 11. D'Amato finished with eight points.

Greg Duran (Lawrence) played a key defensive role off the bench as a pair of the Knights starters were in early foul trouble.

NECC will close out the first semester on Sunday evening when they travel to the Bartley Center on the campus of Holyoke Community College for a 6:00pm tip off.
