Knights roll past Bucs to open second half, 91-50

Newton, MA (January 15, 2022) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team opened up the second half of their season in a big way on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 91-50 win on the road over MassBay Community College. With the win the Knights improve to 5-2 in conference play and 7-7 overall. It's the third straight win for the Knights dating back to the seasons first half.

The Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they took a 22 point lead into the locker room at halftime, leading 46-24.

Six different players registered double figures in points including three Phillip Cunningham (Haverhill), Matt D'Amato (Peabody) and Kevin Monteiro (North Andover) who tied for a game high 14 points. The 14 points were a season high for Monteiro who made his first start of the season.

Daniel Almarante (Lawrence) and Mehmet Asik (Ankara, TR) both added 13, while Cristian Kinsley (Lawrence) tossed 12 points in his return to the lineup from injury that forced him to miss much of the season's first half.

The Knights will return to the court at home on Thursday when they conclude the non-conference portion of their season hosting Eastern Nazarene College JV. Tip off is set for 6:00pm. Spectators will not permitted for the month of January. The game will be viewable on the NECC Athletics YouTube channel beginning at 5:45pm
