NECC hangs on for 13th straight behind 20 bench points from Haas, 79-77
Brockton, MA (February 17, 2022) – A shorthanded Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team secured their 13th straight win on Thursday night behind 20 points off the bench from Elijah Haas (Haverhill). With the win NECC improves to 18-7 overall and 15-2 in Region 21 play, (Tuesday's cancelled game with Holyoke has officially been ruled a forfeit win for NECC).
 
Thursday's win also secures the Knights the outright Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference championship by virtue of their regular season record (11-0) against MCCAC opponents.
 
Reigning NJCAA Player of the Week Mehmet Asik (Ankara, TR) added 19 points for the Knights and Matt D'Amato (Peabody) making a spot start tossed in 11 to lead three Knights in double figures.
 
Stepping in to fill a void in the lineup Cameron Stratton (Haverhill) dished out 10 assists off the bench and Ezekiel Barning (Brampton, ON) added six blocks.
 
NECC will close out the regular season on Saturday at home in crucial matchup with Quincy College. The winner of the Saturday's matchup will secure the two seed in next weeks regional tournament. Tip-off is at noon from the Sport and Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus.
