NECC opens up big lead, hangs on for win over BHCC in Region 21 opener

Charlestown, MA (November 8, 2022) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team opened up a 21-point halftime lead in their Region 21 opener on the road Tuesday night and hung on to move to 3-0 on the season with the 87-77 victory over the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill.

Leading 49-28 at the half, the Knights got off to a sluggish start on the second half and BHCC pulled to within two points on the hot shooting of sophomore guard Angel Price-Espada (21 points).

For the Knights it was Luis Reynoso (Lawrence) leading the way for the third consecutive game with a game high 25 points, 17 of which game at the foul line as he was fouled 13 times in the contest trying to be contained in the paint.

Three other players joined Reynoso in double figures led by Jeremiah Melendez (Lawrence) with 19 points, Edwin SamMbaka (Paris, FR) tossed in 13 and Cristian Kinsley (Lawrence) added 11.

When the Bulldogs made things interesting and closed the lead, NECC became nearly lights out at the free throw line as they converted 29 of 37 free throws in the game including eight straight in the final stretch.

The Knights will remain on the road Thursday evening as part of six straight games on the road to open the season as they will head to Worcester to take on Quinsigamond Community College with tip off set for 5:00pm.
