Haverhill, MA (January 26, 2023) – With eight games to go in the regular season the Northern Essex Community College men's basketball has matched last seasons win total of 20 games as they picked up their school record 16th consecutive win on Thursday night with a 91-66 win over Springfield Technical Community College. NECC now sits at 20-1 on the season and 15-0 on conference play.
The Knights took and eight-point lead into the locker room at halftime by a 41-33 score and jumped on the Rams in the opening minutes of the second half to open up a 20 point and cruised the rest of the way to the 25-point victory.
The Lawrence duo of Jeremiah Melendez and Luis Reynoso each recoded a game high 23 points to pace the offensive attack. The pair combined for seven of the Knights 12 three-point baskets on the evening. Kevin Monteiro (Somerville) joined the pair in double digits with 10 points.
Edwin SamMbaka (Paris, FR) led a strong defensive effort as he grabbed 12 rebounds in the game.
NECC will look to make it 17 wins in a row on Saturday afternoon when they remain home to take on Quinsigamond Community College with opening tip set for 12:00pm at the Sport and Fitness Center.
