Nelson DeSilvestre came to Northern Essex in early 2017 to rebuild the Track and Field program that had been dormant for the past few years.  Prior to his arrival on campus, the program enjoyed some good years and produced many national qualifiers and a national champion.

Coach DeSilvestre spent 4 seasons as the head coach of winter track at Manchester-Essex Regional High School. There, he won one conference title and was voted coach of the year.

Prior to Manchester-Essex, Nelson was the Head Boys Coach at Beverly High School for 18 winter seasons and 17 spring seasons.  He accumulated 214 wins with a .680 winning percentage, and was voted coach of the year on two occasions.

Coach DeSilvestre hails from Beverly High School and is the holder of one class, one school, and three relay records.  He graduated from The University of Maine, Orono, as an eight time letter winner, three time All New England performer, and holds one of the top 10 all-time performances in the triple jump in school history.
