Dejalee Torres named NJCAA Volleyball All-American

Haverhill, MA (December 1, 2021) - Freshman Dejalee Torres (Lawrence) of the Northern Essex Community College women's volleyball team became the first member of the women's volleyball program to be named NJCAA All-American as announced by the NJCAA Division III Volleyball Committee on Wednesday afternoon.

Torres was named Honorable Mention All-American and was one of just 28 student-athletes to earn the recognition nationally. 12 student-athletes each earned First and Second team recognition, while Torres was one of six to earn Honorable Mention. The All-America teams are presented by the Marines.

Torres was a force on both sides of the net as she was the regional leader in both kills and kills per set, while ranking third in both hitting percentage and blocks per set. Her kills per set also ranked among national leaders.

Overall Torres will become the 42nd name (17th female) added to the All-American wall in the annals of the Knights athletic program and second this calendar year joining baseball's Nick White.

The Knights finished the season as NJCAA Region 21 Tournament runner-up falling to the Community College of Rhode Island in the championship game after going unbeaten in the regular season against region opponents.
