NECC dominates conference opening tri-match

Haverhill, MA (September 17, 2023) – The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team remained perfect on the season as they swept Quinsigamond and Roxbury in dominating fashion by identical 3-0 scores to start Region 21 play at 2-0 and improve their overall record to 5-0 on the season.

The Knights closed out the opening match against Quinsigamond as Vielka Sanchez (Lawrence) served up all 25 points in the set as NECC recorded the first set shutout in program history. Set scores in the opening match were 25-10, 24-4 and 25-0.

For the match she had 17 services aces to go along with 15 assists. Abigail Heredia (Lawrence) led the offense with 11 kills and was joined in the offensive attack by Margo Martinez (Lawrence) and Telaviv Nunez (Lawrence) who recorded six kills each.

Against Roxbury, it was more of the same for the Knights as they cruised with set scores of 25-4, 24-3 and 25-10.

Heredia led the way in the nightcap with 10 kills while Sanchez continued her mastery behind the service line with 12 aces to go along with a match high 13 assists.

Chantel Melgen (Lawrence) and Nunez each served up six aces, while Nunez also added six kills and nine assists.

The Knights will remain at home on Tuesday as they host New Hampshire Tech in the Sports and Fitness Center. First serve is set for 6:30pm
