Volleyball stays hot, takes down Bunker Hill and Massasoit in Region 21 Tri-Match

Boston, MA (October 1, 2023) – The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team ran their unbeaten streak to 12 matches to open the season as they improved to 12-0 and 7-0 in Region 21 play as they beat Bunker Hill 3-1, before sweeping Massasoit 3-0.

In their most closely contested region matchup of the season to date, the Bulldogs took NECC to extra points in the opening set and four sets for the match as the Knights prevailed 27-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-19.

Abigail Heredia (Lawrence) and Liz Exume (Chelmsford) combined to lead the attack as they recorded 17 and 19 kills each in the match. Vielka Sanchez (Lawrence) and Telaviv Nunez (Lawrence) both tossed up 20 assists each to set up the attack.

Sanchez and Lirianys Rosario (Lawrence) each recorded 13 digs on the defensive side of the net.

Vs. Massasoit

 

The Knights cruised to the 3-0 with set scores of 25-6, 25-22, and 25-8.

Exume led the attack going off for 12 kills in 20 attempts as she attacked with a .550 kill percentage for the match. Sanchez and Nunez recorded 19 and 11 assists respectively in the match.

Chantel Melgen (Lawrence) recorded a match high of 13 digs on the defensive.

The Knights hit the road on Tuesday night and will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive as they head to Community College of Rhode Island.
