#4 Knights complete three game sweep of Massasoit

Brockton, MA (April 11, 2022) - The #4 nationally ranked Northern Essex baseball team rattled off it 14th straight win on Monday afternoon to sweep its second consecutive conference series to improve to 22-2 overall and 6-0 in Region 21 action.

  • Massasoit jumped out to 2-0 lead after the first inning, which saw the Knights trail in a game for the first time since March 27th. MCC would be held scoreless the rest of the way as the Knights would score the next 11 runs starting in the second inning.
  • The Knights got on the board in the second with one run when Jared Coppola (Lynn) led the inning off with a double to on a line drive to center and scored one batter later when Richard Matos (Boston) reached on an infield single and Coppola scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.
  • In the third, NECC scored a pair of runs with two outs in the inning. Chris Bear (Boston) reached on a two out single, before stealing second three pitches later and coming around to score on a line drive to left by Nick White (Townsend). The Knights took the lead when Coppola drove in White with a hard hit ball down the left field line.
  • After a scoreless fourth, NECC plated three runs in the fifth. Kam Levesque (Hooksett, NH), led the inning off with a double and would score two batters later on a base hit from Bear. Kyle Hsu (Brookline, NH) who reached via walk would score on a hard hit single to right by White. Bear scored the fourth and final run of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Matos.
  • After a leadoff single in the seventh, Coppola would come around to score on a one out base hit from Clay Campbell (Goffstown, NH)
  • The Knights added three runs in the eighth to result in the 11-2 as Bear recorded an RBI double and Coppola recorded his second home run of the season. For the game the Knights pounded out 13 hits, led by Coppola 4 for 4 performance.
  • On the mound, Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill) went six innings allowing two runs (one earned), on four hits, striking out 11 and walking one. Tom Cattaneau (Gilford, CT) and Tyler McDonald (Haverhill) finished off the game each throwing one inning and striking two.
 
The Knights are scheduled to return to the field on Wednesday and head to Fraser Field to take on Fisher College JV under the lights at 7:00pm. They'll remain on the road Thursday before returning home on Saturday afternoon to take on Quincy College in a double header at Trinity Stadium.
