Knights beat CCRI for first time in four years for 21st straight

Haverhill, MA (April 21, 2022) - The Northern Essex Community College baseball team picked up their first win over CCRI on Thursday afternoon since March 26, 2018 for their 21st straight victory of the season by a score of 10-1. With the win the Knights improve to 29-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in Region 21 play.

#3 NECC 10 - CCRI 1

  • Jagger Iovinelli (Huntington Beach, CA) got the start on the mound for the Knights and picked up the win tossing five innings of one run baseball. He allowed five hits while striking out five.
  • Tristan Ciampa (Wilmington) and Jack Swarbrick (Haverhill) tossed the final four innings. Ciampa pitched three innings of one hit ball striking out five and walking one. Swarbrick allowed two batters to reach in the 9th on one hit, as he shut the door on CCRI.
  • NECC plated three runs in the 2nd inning as Jared Coppola (Lynn) and Richard Matos (Boston) reached to lead off tthe inning. Coppola scored on a single to center by Clay Campbell (Hooksett, NH). Matos and Campbell would both score on a two run RBI single from Joey Settle (Melbourne, FL).
  • CCRI plated their lone run of the game in the 4th when they started the inning with the first three batters reaching before an out was recorded but one run was all they could get.
  • The Knights got the run back in the 5th when Richie Williams (Georgetown) cranked a one out double to center and scored one batter later when Chris Bear (Boston) sent the ball to the opposite field.
  • NECC blew the game open in the 6th when they scored five runs with one out. After reaching on a single, Campbell scored on an error by the CCRI catcher and Settle scored on a wild pitch following his walk. Lucas Berube (Dighton) and Kam Levesque (Goffstown, NH) scored when Bear ripped his third hit of the game.
  • For the game the Knights ripped of 13 hits, with Williams 5th inning double being the only extra base hit. 

Northern Essex will head south on Saturday to CCRI for a double header to cap off the three game season series. First pitch of game one on Saturday is set for 12:00pm in Warwick, RI
