Tennessee Bound: Knights punch ticket to 8th NJCAA World Series

Haverhill, MA (May 14, 2022) – For the eighth time in program history the Northern Essex Community College baseball team is headed to the NJCAA World Series. The Knights were the second team to punch their ticket to the eight team tournament scheduled to begin May 28th in Greeneville, TN. The Knights previous seven trips occurred in 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. The win for the Knights was their 33rd consecutive on the season and now stand at 41-2 overall on the season.

#3 NECC 13 Monroe-Bronx 3

  • Playing as the visiting team, the Knights broke the game open with a five run second inning to take a lead they would never looking back as they jumped out to 10-0 lead, before Monroe scored a pair of runs in the 6th.
  • In the 2nd, NECC loaded the bases with one out and a sac fly from Lucas Berube (Dighton) scored the first run of the game as he scores Richard Matos (Boston) who reached on a one out single. NECC would add four more runs in the inning, all with two outs. After being hit by a pitch Clay Campbell (Goffstown, NH) would score on a line drive to right by Kameron Levesque (Hookset, NH). Richie Williams (Georgetown) sent a ball past the outreached second basement to score Logan Burrill (Amesbury) who reached on an error. A single to center off the bat of Chris Bear (Boston) plated the final two runs of the inning as both Levesque and Williams crossed the plate.
  • The Knights would add two more runs with two outs in the 3rd. Campbell and Burrill reached on back-to-back base hits and moved up a base on a passed ball before both would come around to score on a line drive to left field by Berube.
  • Williams would lead the 4th off with a double and score a well executed double steal after Bear reached on a walk. Bear would then score on a triple off the bat of Jared Coppola (Lynn). A sac fly from Matos scored Coppola to stake the Knights to a 10 run lead through four innings.
  • After Monroe scored two in the 6th, the Knights would get one back in the 8th with a solo home run from Coppola over the wall in left field. Monroe got the run back in the bottom half of the inning before NECC plated the final two runs of the game in the top half of the 9th.
  • After reaching via an error Berube would come around to score on a passed ball and Bear after walking would score on a double from White.
  • On the mound, Todd Tringale (Saugus) was well in control for 5 2/3 innings as he scatted six hits, allowed two runs while striking out three and walking three. A trio of relievers sealed the victory for the Knights. Tyler McDonald (Haverhill) got out of the jam in the 6th before giving way to Alex Sweeney (Raymond, NH) who threw two innings of hitless relief followed by Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill) who threw a perfect 9th to move the Knights onto Tennessee.

Seeding for the World Series is scheduled to be released on Monday May 23rd when the Knights will learn their opponent and time for their first game of the tournament
