Knights fall on day two of NJCAA World Series

Greeneville, TN (May 29, 2023) – The Northern Essex Community College baseball team fell on day two of the NJCAA World Series by an 11-0 final to top seeded RCSJ-Gloucester. The loss sends the Knights into the elimination bracket where they will face seventh seeded Herkimer College on Tuesday at 2:15pm where they will look to keep their season alive. The loss drops the fifth seeded Knights to 36-7 overall on the season.

NECC was held to just two hits on Monday night, both of which were recorded by Jomar Moretta (Lynn) in the first and third innings. The Knights best scoring opportunity came in the second inning when they left the bases loaded with two outs on a pair of walks and a hit batsman.

Jagger Iovinelli (Huntington Beach, CA) was settled with the loss for Northern Essex as he went 1 2/3 innings allowing six runs on five hits. A trio of Knights allowed five additional runs on three hits and three walks.

NECC is expected to send sophomore Tristan Ciampa (Wilmington) to the mound on Tuesday afternoon looking to keep the Knights season alive, where a win would send the Knights into the semi-final round. NECC and Herkimer split a double header on March 17th in Auburndale, FL over the teams southern trip.
