NECC's Manny Castro Named Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winner at Third Base

Haverhill, MA (June 18, 2025) Northern Essex Community College's standout sophomore third baseman, Manny Castro (Manchester, NH), has earned the prestigious 2025 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award for NJCAA Division III, solidifying his reputation as one of the top defensive players in junior college baseball. On Wednesday, Castro also announced his commitment to continue his career at NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure.

Castro, anchored the infield for the Knights finishing the season with a .932 fielding percentage. Of the nine selections to the Gold Glove team, Castro was one of six individuals who were also named All-Americans last week.

In addition to his defensive excellence, earning Second Team NJCAA All-American honors. He hit.465 with a .540 on-base percentage and a .806 slugging percentage, tallying 60 hits, 53 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases. His all-around performance powered the Knights to a 32-10 overall record and their fourth straight Region 21 and Northeast District Championships, culminating in another trip to the NJCAA World Series.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is presented annually to the best defensive player at each position nationwide, and Castro's recognition marks the third straight season in which a member of the Knights baseball program earned the recognition. Chris Bear was named Gold Glove shortstop in 2024, while pitcher Jairo Vazquez earned the award in 2023.
