Knights drop 2OT heartbreaker to Great Bay

Haverhill, MA (November 23, 2021) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team dropped a double overtime heartbreaker on Tuesday evening to the Herons of Great Bay Community College. With the loss, the Knights record dips to 4-4 on the season.

Holding a single digit lead for most of the game, NECC led 66-64 in the closing seconds and Great Bay was fouled on a three-point attempt to win the game at the buzzer. Making two of three free throws to force overtime with the game tied at 66.

The teams traded buckets in the first overtime before GBCC pulled away in the second overtime.

Mehmet Asik (Ankara, TR) was the games high scorer with 21 points before fouling out just prior to overtime. Daniel Almarante (Lawrence) and Metin Yavuz (Istanbul, TR) each added 14 points in defeat.

Kevin Monteiro (Somerville, MA) had a strong game off the bench with 10 rebounds and eight points The Knights led 35-30 going into halftime.

The Knights will return to the court after the Thanksgiving holiday when they head to Portsmouth for the back end of the home and home series with Great Bay next Tuesday November 30th at 6:00pm.
