Knights extend win streak to five with 70-56 win over Bunker Hill

Haverhill, MA (January 23, 2022) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team has extended its winning streak to five with a 70-56 home victory over Bunker Hill on Sunday afternoon. The winning streak is now the longest for the program in more than 10 years. It's also the first win over Bunker Hill since January 25th 2018.

Matt D'Amato (Peabody) led the offense with a game high 18 points off the bench, 13 of which came in the first half as the Knights took a 43-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Daniel Almarante (Lawrence), Mehmet Asik (Ankara, TR) and Phillip Cunningham (Haverhill) all joined D'Amato in double figures as they dropped 16, 12 and 10 respectively.

Defensively, Northern Essex held BHCC to it lowest point total of the season. The efforts of Alamarante Cristian Kinsley (Lawrence) and Greg Duran (Lawrence) held the Bulldog's Angel Price-Espada 10 points. He had been averaging 36 points a game for BHCC since the start of the month.

With the win, the Knights improve to 9-7 and 6-2 in Region 21 play. They will remain at home when they return to the court on Thursday at 6:00pm when they host UConn-Avery Point in Region 21 action.
