Haverhill, MA (February 19, 2022) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team had their 14 game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale to Quincy College by a score of 90-63. The loss was the first for the Knights since December 4th. The loss drops the Knights record to 18-8 overall on the season and 15-3 in Region 21 play.
Quincy got off to hot start shooting and the Knights were playing catch up throughout the game, NECC trailed by 14 at the half 48-34. Elijah Haas (Haverhill) led the NECC with 11 points off the bench. Metin Yavuz (Istanbul, TR) added 10 points to both record double figures.
Greg Duran (Lawrence) provided some valuable minutes off the bench working to contain Quincy's Doug Alves who had a game high 23 points, 16 of which came in the first half.
With the loss, the Knights will be the #3 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 21 Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday February 23rd at 6:00pm. The Knights opponent is yet to be determined and final seeding will be announced on Sunday night.
