#5 Men’s Basketball pulls away from Queensborough in the second half

Queensborough, NY (November 5, 2023) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team, ranked fifth in the NJCAA preseason poll improved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated Queensborough Community College on the road Sunday afternoon.

The Knights got into some early foul trouble on Sunday afternoon with a pair of starters heading to the bench in the early minutes of the game as NECC was whistled for 13 first half fouls compared to just five for the home Tigers. Despite the early foul troubles, NECC took a two-point lead into the halftime break, 31-29.

NECC was able to open up a double-digit lead in the early minutes of the second half and outscored the Tigers 42-28 in the second half for a 73-57 final score.

Luis Reynoso (Lawrence) recorded a team high 15 points for the Knights while he also grabbed 13 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games to start the season.

Camille Palacioglu (Tuebingen, Germany) tossed in 10 points off the bench to give the Knights two scorers in double digits. In total 12 different players recorded at least two points.

The Knights recorded 39 bench points to just eight for QCC.

NECC will stay on the road on Thursday as they travel to Springfield Tech for a Region 21 contest. The nights will return home on Saturday November 11th for a Veterans Days Classic against Essex County (NJ) College. In conjunction with the game the Knights will be wearing special edition military uniforms that will be auctioned off during the game with monies raised benefitting local organizations working with veterans.

NOTE: Saturday's game at Kingsborough was cancelled due to a medical emergency within the Kingsborough Athletic Department on Friday evening. The game is not expected to me made up.
