#5 Knights hang on for road win in battle of Region 21s top teams

Haverhill, MA – (February 5, 2024) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team picked up an important win on Saturday evening as they defeated Quincy College on the road by a 76-74 final. In the process, the Knights improved to 20-1 over and 15-0 in region play and picked up the season sweep of the Granite. With seven games remaining, NECC holds a three-game advantage in the loss column.

Luis Reynoso (Lawrence) and Edwin SamMbaka (Paris, FR) both scored a team high 15 points to pace the Knights offense. Kyoya Sasaki (Tokyo, JP) added 14 points of his own to give the Knights of trio of double-digit scorers.

Reynoso picked up another double-double as he had a game high 13 rebounds and was joined by Karl Wolfgang (Douala, CM) who had 11 rebounds.

NECC forced Quincy into 24 turnovers for the game and recoded 28 points off turnovers compared to just two points scored for the Granite off of Knights turnovers.

The Knights took a two-point advantage into the locker room as they led 36-34 at the half.

Northern Essex will return to the court on Thursday evening as they will play host to Massasoit Community College at 7:30pm from the Sport and Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus.
