
Men's Basketball grabs pair of Turkey Classic victories
Haverhill, MA (December 2, 2024) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team picked up a pair of wins over the holiday weekend as they hosted the 3rd annual NECC Turkey Classic at the Sports and Fitness Center. On Saturday the Knights defeated Suffolk County Community College by 93-56 final before defeating SUNY Adirondack on Sunday by 92-77 result. The wins improve the Knights to 9-2 on the season and extends their home winning streak to 38 games dating back to February 23rd 2022.
SATURDAY
Four starters scored in double digits as NECC jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in the game, taking a 30-point lead into halftime with a 51-21.
Alex Johnson (Worcester) scored a team high 14 points, followed by Ryan Pacy (Salem, NH) with 12, Christian Sanders (Boston) with 11 and Alejandro Delgado (Haverhill) with 10.
Johnson also handed out six assists and had four takeaways.
Karl Wolfgang (Douala, CM) contributed a team high 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.
SUNDAY
Wolfgang had a monster performance on Sunday with a double-double effort of 14 rebounds and 10 points as NECC had five players score in double figures.
Javien Kirmil (Lowell) returned to the lineup on Sunday to toss in a game high 17 points on six of ten shooting from the floor.
Cristian Moscat (Lawrence), Delgado and Yuno Matsuda (Tokyo, JP) added 13, 12 and 10 respectively.
Moscat and Matsuda also handed out seven and five assists.
Sanders added nine rebounds.
As a team, NECC controlled the glass outrebounding the Timberwolves by a 51-23 margin.
Johnson and Moscat were named to the All-Tournament team following Sunday's win.
NECC will return to conference play and close out a four game home swing on Tuesday evening when they play host to Springfield Tech at 7:30pm at the Sport and Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus.
