Knights run past UCAP, advance to Region 21 Semi-Finals

Haverhill, MA (February 26, 2025) – The top seeded and #8 nationally ranked Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team has advanced to the Region 21 semi-finals for the fourth consecutive year by running away from UConn Avery Point by a 100-71 final score on Wednesday night at the Sport and Fitness Center. The win improves the Knights record to 26-3 on the season.

NECC will take on Bristol Community College on Saturday at 4:00pm in the semi-finals. The game will take place at CCRI in Warwick.

The game was even through the first 10 minutes, with the Knights holding a one point advantage, before they methodically began to pull away and took a 12 (47-35) lead into the locker room at halftime.

13 different players scored at last one basket for the Knights in the contest led by a team high 18 points from Alex Johnson (Worcester).

Xavier Rivera (Lowell) and Alejandro Delgado (Haverhill) both scored 12 points apiece while Karl Wolfgang (Douala, CM) added 10 to give NECC four scorers in double figures.

Yuno Matsuda (Tokyo, JP) dished out eight assists in the victory while scoring six points of his own.

The Knights and Bayhawks will be meeting for the third time this season on Saturday and split a pair of games with each team winning at home. Bristol grabbed the win on November 12 by a 73-64 final before NECC took a 99-61 win on January 21st.
