Knights rally past Vermont Tech

Randolph, VT (September 17, 2023) – The Northern Essex Community College men's soccer team picked its second straight road victory over the weekend in come from behind fashion to improve to 3-1 on the young season. Trailing both 1-0 and 2-1, NECC rallied for two second half goals to secure the victory over Vermont Tech.

While controlling the majority of the game, NECC found themselves trailing 1-0 as VTC converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute. Jonathan Diaz (Methuen) would tie the game up 10 minutes later as he got his foot on the ball following a scrum in front of the net. Shortly after the Diaz goal, NECC would find themselves playing down a player for the game's final 62 minutes.

Tied at one, starting the second half, VTC took a 2-1 nine minutes into the second half, before the Knights would tie things up in the 60th minute when Jadiel Bomfim (Nashua, NH) found the foot of Ronan Harrington (Newburyport) inside the six-yard box to tie the game at two. Kaleb Gianini (Lowell) would convert a penalty kick in the 65th minute which would be the eventual game winner.

For the game, NECC outshot the hosts 34-8 and took 10 corner kicks to four for VTC.

Will Paganini (Derry, NH) recoded four saves in net to pick up his third win of the season.

The Knights will return to the pitch on Wednesday night when they play host to Massasoit Community College at 7:00pm on the turf at Whittier Tech High School on Region 21 non-divisional play.
