Women’s basketball falls in return to competition

Queensborough, NY (November 5, 2023) – Playing their first game in thirteen years after having their program reinstated, the Northern Essex Community College women's basketball team dropped their season opener on the road by a 61-55 final to Queensborough Community College.

After trailing by double digits late in the third quarter, the Knights stormed back to trail by just two late in the fourth quarter before the Tigers were able to seal the game at the free throw line with six straight free throws.

NECC had three scorers in the double digits all making their collegiate debuts as Briannah Namale (Lowell) recorded a team high 14 points, followed by McKayla Dingle (Haverhill) with 12 and Mariah Lasalle (Lawrence) with 11.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday when they open up Region 21 play as they travel for Springfield Tech with tip scheduled for 5:30pm.

NOTE: Saturday's game vs Kingsborough Community College was cancelled due to a medical emergency that occurred within the Kingsborough Athletic Department on Friday evening
