Volleyball sweeps pair of mid-week matches to remain unbeaten

Haverhill, MA (September 28, 2023) – The Northern Essex volleyball team continued its winning ways by sweeping a pair of mid-week matches against Region 21 rival MassBay and Southern Maine Community College in non-conference action. With the wins the Knights improve to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in region play.

MassBay (Tuesday)

 

The Knights swept past the Buccaneers by scores of 25-10, 25-7 and 25-16. Abigail Heredia (Lawrence) and Liz Exume (Chelmsford) led the offense as they both recorded nine kills apiece as part of a Knights attack that had a .377 kill percentage for the match.

 

Vielka Sanchez (Lawrence) handed out 18 assists for the match and served up five aces while Exume added nine service aces of her own.

Southern Maine (Wednesday)

 

NECC picked up its fourth consecutive 3-0 victory as they defeated the Seawolves 25-12, 25-22 and 25-20. Heredia led the offensive attack again as she recorded 12 kills in 23 attempts, with Exume adding eight kills of her own.

Telaviv Nunez (Lawrence) tossed up 17 assists, while Sanchez made her presence felt on both sides of the net dishing out 13 assists of her own to go along with 14 digs and five service aces. Chantel Melgen (Lawrence) also added 11 digs.

 

The Knights return to Region 21 action on Saturday when they travel to Boston for a tri-match hosted by Bunker Hill with first serve set for 10:00am against the Bulldogs. NECC will face off with Massasoit at 12:00pm.
