Baseball splits with Northampton to wrap up four game set

Bethlehem, PA (March 22, 2021) – The Northern Essex Community College baseball team rallied from an eight-run game one deficit to rally for a 10-8 victory before dropping game two by a 13-8 score. The Knights move to 6-7 on the season after taking three out of four from the Spartans.

Game 1

After two scoreless innings, the Knights unraveled in the third inning committing three errors, allowing three free passes and four hits from the Spartans that led to an eight run frame and saw the Knights in a big hole.

NECC clawed back with a pair of runs in the fourth on RBI doubles from Clay Campbell (Hookset, NH) and Owen Foote (Methuen). The score would remain 8-2 until the sixth when the Knights exploded for an eight-run inning of their own at the plate.

With one out in top of the sixth, Lucas Berube (Dighton) and Foote would reach via a hit batsman and a walk. They would quickly score as Dylan Duval (Middleton) ripped to the fence in center field to bring the game to 8-4. The Knights would score six more runs with two outs in the inning. Jared Coppola (Lynn) would send a double to left that scored Duval and Coppola would score on a single from Chris Presinal (Sudbury).

Trailing by two with two outs Logan Burrill (Amesbury) would crush his fourth homerun of the series to tie the game at eight. A pair of singles by Joe Muzio (Rockport) and Campbell, followed by a walk to Berube loaded the bases and Foote ripped a basehit to left that scored Muzio and Campbell to result in the games final score.

Game 2

The Knights found themselves in a hole early after trailing 9-1 after two innings and worked to climb back in the game but couldn't mount the big inning to turn the tables.

Offensively in the second game, Burrill continued his hot streak as he ripped a pair of doubles. Nick White (Townsend) crushed a three-run home run over the center field wall in the third while Foote added a two run home run of his own in the sixth.

The Knights will return to the field on Friday when they are set to host Fisher College in a double header scheduled for 11:00am at Fraser Field in Lynn.
