NECC Overwatch team off to fast start in Esports competition

Haverhill, MA (September 28, 2020) – The Northern Essex Community College Esports team has begun competition for the fall semester and the Overwatch team is off to an unbeaten start.

In NJCAA Esports competition the Knights took down Gogebic Community College (MI) by a score of 3-0 in week one play. NECC started with a sweep of the Nepal portion of the match and then went on to win the Eichenwalde and Hanamura portions of the match by 2-1 and 1-0 victories. The player of the game for the Knights was Kirmy Ramos (Kirmy) of Lawrence.

The Knights followed the victory up with a 3-0 shutout of Lakeland University (WI) to kick off competition in the New England Collegiate Conference competition. The Knights swept all three phases of the map in the Dorado, Blizzard World and Busan sections with 3-0, 3-0 and 2-0 scores. The player of the game for the Knights was Jason McDonald (FreakyJ) of Georgetown.

The Knights dropped their Rainbow 6: Siege opener to Carl Albert State College (OK) by a score of 2-0. On the map, the Knights lost the Clubhouse by a score of 7-3 and Oregon by a score of 7-1.

Eli Abbott (Bigdaddy25477) of Newburyport picked a forfeit win in Madden and will play his first competition this coming week.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors 12 varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's soccer, Esports and men's and women's track and field.
