Overwatch remains atop standings heading into final week

Haverhill, MA (April 5, 2021) – Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Northern Essex Community College Overwatch team remains atop the standings in the New England Collegiate Conference following a 2-1 victory over the University of Southern Mississippi and now sit at 7-0-1 on the season.

The Knights got shutout on the opening Oasis map by the Golden Eagles by a 2-0 score before rally to take the final two maps and secure the victory. NECC would take the King's Row map 3-2 before securing the win by taking the final Route 66 map by a 1-0 result.

Alex Montanez (Fabled) of Methuen earned Player of the Game recognition as he contributed 45 eliminations and an additional 27 Objective elimination on the King's Row map. Dylan Fontaine (HauntedMage) of Haverhill provided the team with steady healing throughout the match.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate action, Joshua Silva (jnossh_16) of Amesbury dropped a 4-0 decision to second place Montgomery County Community College and now sits at 5-3 in league play and in a three way tie for third place and the final playoff spot in group play.

In Rainbow Six: Siege the Knights dropped a 2-1 decision to Buena Vista University and now sit at 2-6 on the season with one week to go and will need to a win in the final week of the season to remain in consideration for a playoff spot.

The Knights lost the opening Villa map 8-6 before rebounding in the Clubhouse map with a 7-3 win. Jeremy Hernandez (Zara) of Lawrence had 20 kills on the Villa map in the losing efforts, while David Callaghan (Dcalli) of Salem, NH had a team high 14 kills on the Clubhouse map to help secure the map win.

Northern Essex Community College competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors 12 varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's soccer, Esports and men's and women's track and field.
