Asik powers Knights past STCC for 10th straight, 75-58

Haverhill, MA (February 8, 2022) – The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team picked up its 10th straight win on Tuesday night at the Sport and Fitness Center behind the monster performance from Mehmet Asik (Ankara, TR). With the win, the Knights have secured a spot in the upcoming Region 21 and will look to secure home court in the opening round with five regular season games remaining. Overall NECC improves to 14-7 and 11-2 in conference play.

After a sluggish start and back and forth first half, Asik led the way with 25 points, 16 rebounds and six assists for the Knights who took a five point advantage into the locker room at the half, 31-26. Joining Asik in double figures were Daniel Almarante (Lawrence) and Phillip Cunningham (Haverhill) with 14 and 12 points respectively.

Cristian Kinsley (Lawrence) led the defensive effort keeping the Rams top scorers quiet in the second half.

The Knights will return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Worcester to take on Quinsigamond Community College at 6:00pm. The game will be available on YouTube. NECC returns home on Monday February 14th to take on Bristol at 6:00pm.
