Haverhill, MA (February 2, 2023) – The #3 nationally ranked Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team picked up their nations best 18th consecutive win on Thursday night as they pushed past the Warriors of Massasoit Community College by an 82-73 final. With the win, NECC improves to 22-1 on the season and 17-0 in Region 21 play.
The Knights who led by as many as 11 points in the first half took a 43-35 lead into the locker room at halftime. While never trailing the in the second half, NECC couldn't put the Warriors away as the leader never grew to more than 11 in second half.
On the offensive side of the ball, NECC was led by the Lawrence duo of Luis Reynoso and Jeremiah Melendez as Reynoso dropped a game high 21 points and Melendez followed right behind with 20.
Making his return to the lineup Tre Fite (Washington, OH) added nine points off the bench.
Defensively, the Knights were led by Edwin SamMbaka (Paris, FR) who pulled down 15 rebounds and added three steals and four blocked shots.
After four straight home games, NECC hits the road on Saturday to take on Roxbury Community College. Opening tip-off is set for 2:00pm from the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
